The Imperial Royal Guard was released in 1983 by Kenner as part of the first series of figures from Return of the Jedi. These impressive guards of Emperor Palpatine are dressed in a red ceremonial cloak and helmet, which made them an instant standout in both the film and the toy line.

The figure is dressed in a deep red, soft cloth cape, has red, stately-looking armor and carries a force pike (a gray staff). The sculpt is relatively static - fitting their silent, menacing presence in the film.

Common variants include:

Cape: Variations in fabric type (soft vs. coarse), shade (red to dark red), and cut.

Helmet and body shade: Some examples have a lighter or deeper red color.

Weapon: The force pike is usually gray, but can vary slightly in length and flexibility.

Lili Ledy variant (Mexico): Often with a less bright cape and slightly different color in the plastic of the helmet and arms. Sometimes the weapon is missing.

The Royal Guard was beloved by children and collectors because of its mysterious design and direct connection to the Emperor. A complete example with original cape and staff is highly sought after by collectors of vintage Star Wars figures today.
