The Rancor Keeper, also known as Malakili, was released in 1984 by Kenner as part of the Return of the Jedi line. This figure represents the caretaker of the Rancor - the monster that kept Jabba the Hutt in his dungeon. Rancor Keeper is recognizable by his bald head, sturdy build and his simple desert clothing consisting of an open, gray tunic, leather chest protector and dark pants.
The figure came with a large brown-gray axe, a unique accessory that sets him apart from other figures.
Known variations include:
Paint details: Differences in skin color (light to pinkish beige) and beard color (dark brown to black).
Weapon Variant: The axe comes in a variety of shades of brown, sometimes with slight shape variations depending on the production location.
Lili Ledy Variant (Mexico): This usually has a lighter skin tone and softer plastics, with slightly less paint detail on the face and clothing.
While the Rancor Keeper doesn’t play a fighting role in the film, he has become an iconic figure due to his emotional reaction to the loss of his Rancor—and a fun addition to a Jabba’s Palace collection.
